Saturday, December 30, 2006:
Upon further investigation, I discovered that ABC@Home had created another project site completely. It is ABC@Home Beta. Because of this fact, I have moved ABC@Home back to the Alpha phase section and added ABC@Home Beta to the Beta phase section. My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. -- Siran
Friday, December 29, 2006: ABC@Home will be moving up to Beta phase in January 2007. I decided to "jump the gun" and moved the project to the Beta section now.
This will most likely be my last entry here for this year, 2006. I would like to take this moment to thank everyone for visiting my site. This year held a major learning process. I learned how to do some CGI programming. I learned how to do some effects such as the cosmetic effect of the stationary background image. I learned how to stop spammers in their tracks from messing up the guestbook. Once again, thank you all for your support. -- Siran
ADDENDUM: I just added a new BOINC project to the site: Distributed Rainbow Table Generator in the Pre-Alpha section. -- Siran
Saturday, December 23, 2006:
My apologies. As many of you may have noticed, ABC@Home was not accessible from this website. I have since found out that they had changed the URL for their website. I went thruough and made the appropriate changes to this website as well. The project ABC@Home is now accessible from here. Again, my apologies. -- Siran
Tuesday, December 12, 2006:
I have added 2 new BOINC projects to the site: ABC@Home, in the Pre-Alpha Phase section and DepSpid in the Alpha Phase section.
Friday, December 1, 2006: Proteins@Home has moved from Alpha phase to Beta phase. They are now open for more particpants. I have moved them from the Alpha phase section to the Beta phase section.
I have completely stopped the spammers of the guestbook. I have not had to update my CGIs for over a month. -- Siran
Saturday, October 28, 2006:
I have incorporated yet another scheme to attempt to ward of the spammers of the guestbook. This one may prove to be somewhat more effective. I added a graphic authentication code that must be entered before the guestbook entry can be made. The graphic code must be entered exactly as displayed, else there will be no entry made. I apologize for the inconvenience. It just gets real tiring having to update the website 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 times a day just because of spammer slugs....
Saturday, October 21, 2006:
I do know that it probably wasn't all that hard to notice that my front page has changed dramatically. Yep! I worked hard on it. I decided that I wanted to get away from the frames and put in an up-to-date menu system. To do this, I had to combine 3 different files into one and add 4 more to the site. Please let me know if you discover any broken links. I have already found one and fixed it. I hope you enjoy the new digs! - Siran
Sunday, October 15, 2006:
I just added yet another BOINC project to the site. It is called Docking@Home and is located in the Alpha phase section. Their aim is "to accomplish both bioscience and computer science goals". More info can be read on their website.

Message from Rectilinear Crossing Numbers
Sorry, the dIST server is down.
The webserver you are connected to runs on my personal notebook. I'd like to inform you that the dIST server is down because its mainboard, an Asus A8N SLI Premium died after only 4 months. Our dealer said that there is a shortage of 939 boards due to the change-over to the new AM2 socket but there is a chance that I can get a new one today.
As the controllers of the raid array had errors before I'm afraid that the data on the disks is also corrupt. Probably I will need to restore a backup and this will also take some time. However, I am working on that and maybe we can be online again tomorrow.
Best regards
Bernhard
Update
We have a new mainboard, an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe and the hardware is okay now. But the data on the disks is corrupted. I will restore a backup today. Maybe I will also re-install the operating system. We should be online again today or tomorrow.
Best B
Tuesday, October 3, 2006:
Yesterday, Oct. 2, I moved Project Neuron from pre-alpha phase to alpha phase.
Saturday, September 2, 2006:
I have moved Spinhenge@Home from the Alpha Phase section to the Beta Phase section. They went to beta phase on September 1, 2006.
Tuesday, August 29, 2006:
I just added 2 more new projects to the site. Project Neuron in the Pre-Alpha section and RenderFarm@Home in the Test Projects section. I have also hidden AlmereGrid since it's status is not known. I may hide The Lattice Project as well. It's taking them forever to get back online.
My break was very short. The spammers are at it again....
Monday, August 28, 2006:
I know, I haven't added anything here for some time how. You may have seen that I added a couple more projects. Today I moved one of them, Riesel Sieve, from Alpha Phase to Beta Phase.
For several weeks now, I have been trying to stay ahead of the spammers of my website. I have finally gone one whole day without having to modify my filters. That is a relief! It gets tiring having to continually update my filters and then upload them to my site server. I could use a break, maybe they'll be kind enough to give me one....
Friday, July 7, 2006:
This past week, I have added 2 new BOINC projects to this site. The first project is Nano-Hive@Home. They deal with nano-technology simulations and are in Beta phase. The second project is Rectilinear Crossing Numbers. They deal with, and I'm guessing here, numbers. There is no description of what the project does. I have placed them in the Pre-Alpha section.
Sunday, July 02, 2006:
Ok then.... The Video card, in this computer decided to fail on me earlier this week. After some experimentation, swaping parts to another computer to test, I had deduced it was the video card. It took me 3 trips, with it, to where I bought the card to get them convinced it was bad. Since it is out of warranty, about 2.5 months old, I had no choice but to buy a new card. I didn't want to wait 2+ weeks for them to send it to the manufacturer and them send it back to me "fixed". 30 days warranty just is not enough....
So, now I have my website up-to-date again. A lot of news out there in the world of BOINC, over a 5 day span. Now back to getting my WinXP box running again so I can get back to BOINCing....
Happy Canada Day, Canada! Happy Independence Day, USA! Go __insert team name here__ in the World Cup!
Sunday, June 11, 2006:
Last night, 6/10, I added another BOINC project to this site. This new project is called vtu@home and is located in Italy. What work this project does is anyones guess. I placed the project in the Pre-Alpha Phase section since I have no idea what phase they are in either.
Saturday, June 10, 2006:
Well, I believe that it is safe to assume that ALife@Home no longer exists. I have removed the links from the Alpha Projects menu. Ok, I really didn't remove them, I just commented them out so they don't display. Maybe some day ALife@Home will be back online and I will redisplay the links at that time.
I have made more mods to the website. I've added a section, well, I should say enhanced upon the Downloads & Such section. It will be a ongoing project getting the stuff in there for convenience. I also added another Stats link, , to the Status & Statistics menu.
I have the spamming of the guestbook cranked down to a very slow crawl. In the past month or so I have only had to deal with 2 spams. My blocking is effective. Enjoy....!
Monday, May 29, 2006:
This note just in from Pirates@Home about Einstein's downtime:
May 29, 2006 16:44 UTC Einstein@Home is down
Einstein@Home is down due to an air conditioning failure and subsequent server crash. Click here for more information
Tuesday, May 23, 2006:
QMC@Home went Beta phase today. I have moved QMC from the Alpha projects menu to the Beta projects menu.
Thursday, May 4, 2006:
Well, I have some great news! After not working on it for about a month or so, I decided to work on the Individual User Stats feature. In about 10 to 15 minutes, I figured out how to create a link in Perl. Now when you select a project and enter your user ID for that project, a link is created instead of the URL for copy/paste. That feature is no longer "under construction". Please enjoy....
Saturday, April 29, 2006:
Well now! As you may have noticed, I have been very busy with the website and have neglected to make my notes here. Let's see if I can sum up what I have been working on.
First off, there's no major news from the projects, well except BURP. They have regressed from alpha phase to pre-alpha phase until they can work out some problems. I have relocated them here as well. And, QMC@Home has not gone beta phase yet, due to problems with the screensaver.
I have enhanced the guestbook here, adding spam and spam IP filters to slow down the onslought of spam in the guestbook. I still haven't succeeded in auto-munging the e-mail addresses, that are entered, to prevent address farming from the site. Until I can, I'll continue to edit the guestbook manually.
I have written my own hit counter CGI. No more relying on an outside entity to keep track of hits to the site.
Last Saturday, I spent most of the day validating the HTML code for the many static pages of the site. Each page has a small validate button that you can click to check for yourself that the code is indeed valid. The dynamically created pages cannot easily be validated, short of just putting the button in the CGI code and hoping for the best. Since the dynamic pages work anyway, I really see no need for validation since they are temporary anyway.
Let's see, what else....? There are changes to the menus because of the recoding for validation. Each news page will be different as well. I'm getting away from the black text and going with white. I have to code the text color each time I make an update, and Rosetta, is very time consumming because of the stats they put in their news. So, you will see each news page change as I update them. If I get really bored, which is highly unlikely, I can always do a wholesale change of the pages and upload them all, but I would have to be really, really bored, so I won't.
That's about it for now. Enjoy....
Wednesday, March 29, 2006: Translator@Home is shutting their doors. Here's their final news announcement:
March 29, 2006
Due to lack of interest and lack of funding this project has now been suspended.
I will be removing this project from the website.
In other news: I spent some time, actually most of my free time, working on my website. As you may have noticed, I added a guestbook. I'm still working on it, but it works ok as it is. I just have some small issues that I'm trying to work out. You can sign the guestbook and/or read the current messages in it.
I also added another BOINC project the other day: Chess960@Home. It's in alpha phase....
ADDENDUM: Ok, found where the "comma bug" was at, in the guestbook, and fixed it. Each field was being seperated by a single comma [,]. To fix it, I now seperate each field with a double comma [,,]. The read CGI will look for the double commas and replace them with a newline character. Single commas can now be used in the Message section.
Sunday, March 19, 2006:
As you may have noticed, I did a bit of a face lift to my site. I realized that I was in need of some more screen real estate for the menu frame so I extended it to the top and shortened the title frame. Not only was it needed for the BOINC projects that I keep adding, I have plans for more enhancement of the site as well. The enhancements are "TOP SECRET" right now, just in case I cannot get them to go. Enjoy....
Friday, March 17, 2006: Happy St. Patricks Day to one and all!
I have added yet another BOINC project to the site. This one is called TANPAKU, and is in the Production Projects section. It is a Japanese Protein Prediction project. You can read about them here. On my news page, you will see lines of question marks [????]. This is where the Japanese language was and I had no way to make it displayable, something a bit beyond my current capabilities. Enjoy....
Monday, March 13, 2006:
Well, I just added yet another BOINC project to the site. It's called HashClash. You can read about what they do here. I placed them in the Pre-Alpha section. I could not find what phase they are in and determined them to be pre-alpha.
This past weekend, I made some minor changes on the site, mainly to the front page. Although, I am now thinking of putting something else in place of the addition I made. Yes, I still continue to work on the link creation in my CGI. It's proving to be slightly more difficult than I first figured. I did make some enhancements to the result page though. The error messages are more specific now. I will continue to endeavor until I succeed. Thanks for your patience....
ADDENDUM: Well, check this out! I have just added another BOINC project to the site. Two in one day! This project is called Seasonal Attribution. You can read about them on their front page. They are ending Beta Phase, so I placed them in the Production Projects section. My work is never done, but I love it....
Sunday, March 12, 2006:
I have relocated the BURP project from the Pre-Alpha Phase menu section to the Alpha Phase menu section, since they have just gone Alpha.
I also continue with my work on the link creation in my Perl CGI. I believe that there is just so much more for me to learn. I will continue to endeavor. Thank you for your patience....
Wednesday, March 8, 2006:
I have just added back Xtremlab to the site. They are back online. They can be found under Production Projects.
Saturday, March 4, 2006:
A couple days ago I added another new project to the site. It's called QMC@Home -- Quantum Monte Carlo. They currently went into public alpha phase. It: - is a project designed to further develop the Quantum Monte Carlo method for general use in Quantum Chemistry. With the help of volunteers all over the world we want to raise the computing power that is needed to test and further develop the opportunities of the promising new approach of Quantum Monte Carlo.
I have been working on the individual user stats feature. I have added radio buttons for each project covered by boincstats.com. Even though the form page still says it's ".... under construction", it is complete. I'm still working on my CGI. At this time it will create the URL for a copy/paste to the address bar of the browser. I did have some minimal success on having it create a link to click instead. Problem is, for some strange reason, instead of getting the 2 pieces of information from the form page, it was inserting the URL to my website into the link. Go figure.... At this time, after reading the news about it on SETI, boincstats.com is having server problems and the site is down. Sooooooo, this little project of mine is rather moot for the moment, sorry.... )-:<
ADDENDUM: I just finished making the stats entry form sleaker and simpler. Got rid of the radio buttons cluttering up the page and created a pulldown menu to select the project from. boincstats.com is still down.... )-:<
Tuesday, February 28, 2006:
This weekend I worked on the CGI section of the site. This section will be used for the userID entry form. My first try failed, got a server error. The host fixed it, not the server but my CGI, and it worked. I modified my file, ftp'd it and broke it. I researched and found the problem and fixed it. I got it working again. I worked on the code that deals with the ID entered and have had minimal success. It works, but not as I want it to. I will continue to work on it until I get it the way I want. Until then, play around with it and see what progress I make as I work on it. This is definitely a learning experience....
Sunday, 02/19/06:
I have discovered yet another BOINC project and have added it to my website. The project is called Leiden Classical. From what I can gather, by joining in, you will help to build a Desktop Computer Grid dedicated to general Classical Dynamics for any scientist or science student.
Since I have not been able to determine the phase that this project is in, and judging from what I have read, I have categorized it under the Production Projects category. If and when I find that it is of a lesser phase, I will move it appropriately.
Still working on adding user stats links to my website. Please be patient....
Saturday, 02/18/06:
I have added another test project to this website. That project is:
RALPH@home is the official alpha test project for Rosetta@home. New application versions, work units, and updates in general will be tested here before being used for production. The goal for RALPH@home is to improve Rosetta@home.
Sunday, 02/12/06:
Last night I added a scroll bar to the title frame above. After some outside testing I found that the e-mail link was below the frame border. I tested on 5 browsers, 2 PCs, 2 OSs. Firefox v1.0.3, Mozilla v1.7.7 and Konqueror on FreeBSD [*nix], and Firefox v1.0.5.1 and IE v6.0.2900.2180 on WinXP Home Ed. SP2. Konqueror was the only one that had a problem for me. The outside tests were done on Firefox v1.0.5.1 and IE (version unknown), (OS unknown). Those 2 had the link problem. I will keep working on it.
I have added another new section to my site, the Status & Statistics section. There you will find links for Projects Status and eventually User Stats. I am striving to make this site much more versatile so that it will keep you coming back for more. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this website. But, I'm having a lot of fun with it....
Saturday, 02/11/06:
I have temporarily removed Folding@Home from this site. No amount of searching could reveal why their BOINC project cannot be accessed. I found one indication that they have had a server name change. Could it be that they forgot to update the BOINC side of things? Or, could it be that they just forgot to mention the server name change for the BOINC side? Their Classic side is alive and well....
Lattice, I presume, is still in the process of upgrading their BOINC server.
I have added a contact e-mail address for me. Feel free to contact me with problems, suggestions, kudos, whatever.
Thursday, 02/02/06:
Note from Lattice:
The Lattice Project
We are currently upgrading our BOINC server in anticipation of a public release. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
The Lattice Project Team
Wednesday, 02/01/06:
What is up with Folding@Home? I'm sure the rest of you have been seeing this message too:

This morning I added a new section to the site. The menu section is called Cool Goodies. I am hosting an extension for the web browser Firefox v1.5 for download, with instructions for installation. If you use the latest version of Firefox, check it out. It's cool!!!!
Saturday, 01/21/06:
Although the project does not do any real science work, I have decided to add Pirates@Home to my website. Since they do testing of BOINC and the BOINC message board software, I categorized them as a Test Project.
Sunday, 01/01/06:
First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
Just found the news on XtremeLab. That project has retired from service. That status can be viewed here. It's sad to see any BOINC project retire. I will be removing the entries for XtremeLab from this site. At the moment, I am busy adding more projects to the site. I will update this when I have finished.
ADDENDUM: I have removed XtremeLab from this site and added 2 more projects, Folding@Home located in the Beta Projects section and AlmereGrid in the Pre-Alpha Projects section. AlmereGrid is on a test server, at present, and is not taking subscriptions for users. They say to send an e-mail, but I haven't found an email address.
