Alllllllllllllll righty then! If you haven't noticed, there has been a change to the website. But, before I go into that, let me start from the beginning.

In mid June I packed up and went on a road trip cross country. I left the hustle and bustle of San Diego, California and headed to the peace and quiet of the mid-west. I had no access to the website to keep it updated. I have since spent a great amount of time updating it. I have even added 5 new BOINC projects with 2 more to add yet.

Now, about the site's new look. I discovered a website, yesterday, 7/16, that had free and not-so free website themes to download. I thought "hmmmm....". I downloaded a free one and looked at how they created their theme. After studying their code for a while, I started on my own. I followed their format, but the code is all mine. My menu is much different than theirs. They had a link list, whereas mine is javascript. I had to figure out how to make mine work and, as you can see, I succeeded. You will see minor and maybe some major changes as I tweak the front page, but the basic design will remain. Enjoy! -- Siran

ADDENDUM: I have discovered a problem. If you don't already have the website bookmarked, and just enter the URL: http://www.sirans-boincnews.com/, you will receive a "Forbidden" error message. There needs to be a "index.shtml" after the last "/". Add that and re-bookmark the website. My apologies for any inconvenience. -- Siran

Well, It seems that in the "infinite wisdom" of Microsoft, Internet Explorer v7 is just as screwed up as it's previous predecessors. In working on this website, I tested it in IE. What's this I see? IE lets you know if there are any errors in the code for a webpage. My newest page was revealed as having errors. My main page also. I go to the bottom of each page and click the W3C button to validate each page. Sure enough, there were errors on each page.

Ah ha! They were not my errors, however. I found some free scripts on the Internet and added them to the website pages. They were all full of errors! Ok, I used the validator and fixed the errors in the scripts. Now I get a green light for each page again. Everything tested ok in the Opera and Firefox browsers. I tested in IE v7. Guess what? IE says there are errors on both pages! Go figure! I attribute that to the sloppy programming coming out of Redmond, Washington, home of the giga-dollar company, Microsoft.

My bottom line is this. No matter what I do I cannot get the website to look close to the same in all browsers. So, since Firefox is my favorite browser, I have made the website look it's best in Firefox. Opera isn't bad, and IE really isn't that bad either. For your best viewing experience, use Firefox! -- Siran

As you may have noticed, this website was down for about a week. Seems that a chunk of cable was torn out by a backhoe digging where it shouldn't have been. Then, another discovery was made. Seems that because of the unseasonably cold weather California has been experiencing, it affected the power where the webservers were housed. Even though a new chunk of cable was being spliced in, there would be minimal, if any power to run the servers. The servers that contain this website, and many others, have been moved out of state and installed in a new location.

My appreciation goes out to my webhost for expediting this. He kept us informed every step of the way. This website was back up when he said it would be. Thanks Pete, you are the greatest! -- Siran

ADDENDUM: Ok, here's a new one! For all you beer aficionados out there, here's a BOINC project for you. I added BelgianBeer@Home to the Pre-Alpha phase section. I have also added WEP-M+2 Project to the Alpha phase section. I haven't a clue what this project does. -- Siran

In doing some research on an attack on one of my PCs I have discovered that I now have a broken link for the Cogent graphs on SETI@Home II. Yes, Cogent Communications is the name given when doing a WhoIS on the IP Address my firewall keeps reporting an attack from and blocking. I will attempt to fix the broken link on this website. Thank you for your patience. -- Siran
