I have added 1 new BOINC project(s):
NOTE: Being that it is this close to the end of the year, I wasn't sure I would have the pleasure of adding any new BOINC projects or not. What a surprise I got this morning when I checked my e-mail.
I would like to take this time to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season, a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year. -- Siran
Wednesday, December 02, 2009:
I updated the downloads page with the newest version of the BOINC manager, v6.10.18 for the Windows platforms, v6.10.17 for the Mac platform and v6.10.17 for the Linux platforms. Also note that the Linux versions will not download to Windows, Mac or Linux machines from my website. They are only available for download on the BOINC website. The download button will take you to the BOINC websites downloads page. -- Siran
Saturday, November 28, 2009:
I have added 2 new BOINC project(s):
NOTE: I am not exactly sure what PicEvolvr.com does. The description I have above came from a different site linked to the project. I am not sure of the relationship between the 2 sites. -- Siran
Wednesday, November 25, 2009:
I have updated the URL for Docking@Home. It seems that projects will need to move to a new server or location at times, for whatever reason(s).
Well, after going through Dockings long list of news items, I found out why. They moved the project to a new university and got a new URL to boot. This was done almost 2 years ago, December 23, 2007! Why I only found out now is way beyond comprehension. I found out when I got an e-mail informing me that my BOINC Team was created on the project. Enjoy! -- Siran
Wednesday, October 07, 2009:
I have added 1 new BOINC project(s):
NOTE: For several months now, this project has been trying to get off the drawing board and into action. I would keep getting e-mails that our team had been created on the project, but there was no access to accounts or whatever. I am pleased they have succeeded! -- Siran
Monday, October 05, 2009:
Greetings everyone! It seems that the SETI project (Prime and Beta) is having some major server issues. Eric Korpela knows about the problem(s), but since this started on the weekend, he cannot get onto campus to work on the problem. Here's a quote from him that I picked up off the BOINC forum:
"Our database machine crashed. I can't get in to campus. Matt's nowhere to be found. Jeff's in Nepal. Dan's in South Africa. Please spread the word that we know that there's a problem."
At the time of this writing, it is only 3:20am in California. Since Berkeley is in California, it will be several hours before Erik can start working on the problem. So, we SETI-zins will need to make sure our PCs have other work they can do until SETI is back in full swing again. That is why we all run multiple projects, right? ;-) -- Siran
Friday, October 02, 2009:
I updated the downloads page with the newest version of the BOINC manager, v6.6.38, the Windows platforms only. The Mac platform has not been updated. The Linux platform versions have not been updated by BOINC. Also note that the Linux versions will not download to Windows, Mac or Linux machines from my website. They are also not available for download on the BOINC website. I received a "Not found..." error message for both files. -- Siran
Monday, September 14, 2009:
I have added 2 new BOINC project(s):
NOTE: The first listed is the newest project I have added. It just started this month. -- Siran
Wednesday, September 2, 2009:
I have added the Retired BOINC Projects page to the site. You can find the link in the Projects section of the menu, last item. The page will open in the same tab, unlike the project websites opening in a new tab. -- Siran
Tuesday, September 1, 2009:
I have just done a major update of this website. There are 24 retired BOINC projects, 13 that were still listed on the Projects section of the menu here. I have removed those projects from the menu. I will be adding a new page that will list all retired BOINC projects, sort of a history thing. Stay tuned for the announcement of this new page and its location on the menu. -- Siran
Wednesday, June 17, 2009:
I updated the downloads page with the newest version of the BOINC manager, v6.6.36, the Windows and Mac platforms only. The Linux platform versions have not been updated by BOINC. Also note that the Linux versions will not download to Windows, Mac or Linux machines. I have yet to figure this out. It has boggled my mind! -- Siran
Thursday, June 11, 2009:
Well, after some checking into the situation mentioned the other day, I found that I indeed have no account on BRaTS@Home. I thought for sure my team was on it which, in order to maintain the team, would require that I have an account. So, I'm stuck.
There is also a "Catch 22" connected to this project. The owner has removed his e-mail address from the main page of his website because he was getting too many e-mails asking about invitation codes. His message, on August 8, 2008, states that to get in contact with him, one needs to visit his message boards. Yeah right! To post on the message board, one needs to be logged into their account. To have an account, one needs an invitation code from the owner. To request the code, one needs to contact the owner.
My only suggestion, to resolve this dilemma, would be to scan the message boards to see if there are any users there that you know that are on other projects you may be running. If so, you can contact them on the other project to see what you would need to do to contact the owner of BRaTS@Home to request an invitation code. I don't have the time to do this and frankly, I'm not that interested in running the project anyway. My apologies! -- Siran
Tuesday, June 09, 2009:
I have moved 1 upgraded BOINC project(s):
NOTE: It is good to see projects succeed in getting better!
I was recently asked about the "Invitation only" status of this project and the invitation codes. I don't know anything about getting the invitation code, I do not personally run this project. Unless a project has very limited resources, I really do not see a logical reason for having a science project "Invitation only". I tried to find an explanation for the project being "Invitation only", I could find none.
I tried logging into my account and am running into a snag. I keep getting a "Secure Connection Failed" error message in Firefox; something about the certificate not being trusted. The project owner has also removed his e-mail address from the website's front page. He said he was getting too many e-mails asking about invitation codes. Go figure! I will do the best I can at finding some information on this and post it here. -- Siran

Monday, April 27, 2009:
I have added 1 new BOINC project(s):
NOTE: This is obviously not a BOINC "science" project, but they call it a "project" none-the-less. -- Siran
Saturday, April 25, 2009:
I have moved 1 upgraded BOINC project(s):
NOTE: It is good to see projects succeed in getting better. I am assuming that what the project manager/owner means by "removing the 'alpha test' status" is that the project is now in Production Status, since there is no mention of the project upgrading to Beta phase. -- Siran
Thursday, April 23, 2009:
I have re-added an existing BOINC project(s):
NOTE: The project owner had taken some time away (a few months) to hitchhike across the southern U.S. with his brother and could not have the server running while he was gone. -- Siran
Wednesday, April 22, 2009:
I have added 1 new BOINC project(s):
NOTE: DrugDiscovery@Home is in an early alpha phase and does not have a formal relationship with academia or the pharmaceutical industry. -- Siran
Tuesday, April 21, 2009:
I have re-added an existing BOINC project(s):
NOTE: I had assumed that since I could no longer get to the project website that the project was no longer running. My apologies to Hien Nguyen Xuan for this assumption. -- Siran
Tuesday, April 14, 2009:
I updated the downloads page with the newest version of the BOINC manager, v6.6.20, the Windows and Mac platforms only. The Linux platform versions have not been updated by BOINC. -- Siran
Monday, April 13, 2009:
I have removed 4 non-existent BOINC project(s):
NOTE: I don't like removing projects, only adding them. I have another 9 projects on my list that I need to look into. I haven't determined what their status is. -- Siran

I have added 1 new BOINC project(s):
NOTE: I doubt my laptop has an "accelerometer". But then, I'm not even quite sure what an accelerometer is. I believe it has something to do with sensing movement/vibrations. -- Siran
Friday, March 27, 2009:
I removed the per project status links from the main menu. The website that privided that service no longer exists. I am really sorry to see that service go away. I used it quite often to check the status of any project that seemed to be having any problems. Maybe someone else, with the knowledge to do so, can carry on for them. Farewell BOINC Projects Status. -- Siran
Sunday, February 22, 2009:
I have fixed the broken link for Scarcrow's SETI statistics graphs website. While researching why I'm not able to upload WUs to SETI, I discovered the broken link. -- Siran

I have added 1 new BOINC project(s):

Sunday, January 18, 2009:
I have uploaded the latest Windows and Linux versions of the BOINC Manager to the downloads section and updated the download page accordingly. The Mac OS X platform version remained the same, there were no updates. I still have not figured out how to get the Linux versions to download without generating a server error. I will continue to work on it. -- Siran
Thursday, January 15, 2009:
I was recently sent the English translation, above, by the project owner of VCP Group. I have added it here at his request. Thank you Hein NX! -- Siran
