Ranks in STARFLEET International are an indicator of leadership and participation. They are awarded by the Captain for service to the ship. They are not meant to be used to order any other member around and are not necessarily an indicator of responsibility for the ship.
To help the crew fully enjoy all STARFLEET has to offer, and as a yardstick to measure the crewmember's participation, the following criteria for promotion have been devised. These criteria are guides only. The final decision on promotion rests with the Commanding Officer.
SFI TRANSFEREES
Any SFI member transfering to the USS Vre'kasht from another chapter, or being assigned to the USS Vre'kasht, will retain their current rank, and time in rank will continue from the current rank date in the SFI member's database file. They will also retain any rank points earned while in the other chapter or from taking Academy courses ( if no points for courses have been awarded, they will be awarded by the XO in due time ).
The following are the rank point levels for promotion on the USS Vre'kasht.
CADET RANKS:
Since the USS Vre'kasht has it's own Cadet program, those rank requirements are listed in the Cadet Ranks section located elsewhere in the ship's library.
ENLISTED RATES:
The Enlisted personnel are the backbone of the ship. They are required for the proper operation and maintenance of all ship's functions. Enlisted promotions are granted per the following criteria ( including participation on the forum and/or other chapter functions and at the Captain's discretion ):
- CREWMAN RECRUIT (CRR) - obtained upon joining STARFLEET and the USS Vre'kasht
- CREWMAN APPRENTICE (CRA) - +25 points, three (3) months time in rate as a CRR and as above.
- CREWMAN 3RD CLASS (CR3) - +25 points (50+ total), three (3) months time in rate as a CRA and as above.
- CREWMAN 2ND CLASS (CR2) - +25 points (75+ total), three (3) months time in rate as a CR3 and as above.
- CREWMAN 1ST CLASS (CR1) - +25 points (100+ total), three (3) months time in rate as a CR2 and as above.
- NOTE: "Enlisted ranks across various Service Branches of STARFLEET may differ in structure and makeup." The final three (3) Crewman enlisted rates above are not part of the rank structure listed in the Membership Handbook (MHB), which can also be found here in the Ship's Library. "... the creation of other or similar rank nomenclatures within approved limits, is permissible." Thus, those 3 rates follow a logical path to the enlisted rates below.
NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER (NCO) RATES:
The Non-Commissioned Officer personnel are also the backbone of the ship. They are required to coordinate and oversee the proper operation and maintenance of all ship's functions. NCO promotions are granted per the following criteria ( including participation on the forum and/or other chapter functions, or passing the Marine PD-10 course and at the Captain's discretion (NOTE: Marine ranks will be granted for passing the PD-10 course, if active affiliation is SFMC) ):
- PETTY OFFICER 3rd Class (PO3) - +50 points (150+ total), four (4) months time in rate as a CR1 and as above.
- PETTY OFFICER 2nd Class (PO2) - +50 points (200+ total), four (4) months time in rate as a PO3 and as above.
- PETTY OFFICER 1st Class (PO1) - +50 points (250+ total), four (4) months time in rate as a PO2 and as above.
- CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (CPO) - +50 points (300+ total), four (4) months time in rate as a PO1, as above and granted upon taking a Division Head position. NOTE: A Division Head is not the same as a Department head.
- SENIOR CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (SCPO) - +50 points (350+ total), four (4) months time in rate as a CPO and as above.
- MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (MCPO) - +50 points (400+ total), four (4) months time in rate as a SCPO and as above.
OFFICER RANKS
The Commissioned Officer personnel are the leadership and decision makers of the ship. They are required to make the final decisions where Enlisted and/or NCO personnel do not have the authority. Officer promotions are granted per the following criteria ( including participation on the forum and/or other chapter functions and at the Captain's discretion ):
- ENSIGN (ENS) - Upon completion of Officer's Training School (O.T.S) and as above
- LIEUTENANT JG (LTJG) - +250 points (250+ total), six (6) months time in rank as an ENS and as above.
- LIEUTENANT (LT) - +250 points (500+ total), six (6) months time in rank as a LTJG and as above.
- LT COMMANDER (LCDR) - +250 points (750+ total), six (6) months time in rank as a LT, completion of Officer's Command College (O.C.C.) and as above.
- COMMANDER (CMDR) - +250 points (1000+ total), six (6) months time in rank as a LCDR and as above.
- Ranks above Commander are awarded by SFI's Executive Committee.
The points required to make each rank is total points, not the amount of points accumulated between ranks.
The First Officer: is charged with the responsibility of compiling and verifying the records and recommending promotions for all crew members. It is the responsibility of the individual crew member to report any courses they have taken and passed, in either STARFLEET Academy or the Marine Academy, as well as other activities. The crew member will also report a request for points, he/she had accumulated since their last report, for outside activities. If the crew member is not required to submit a monthly MSR report, they have the option of sending their points request to their Department Head. If the Department has no chief, their only option is to send the XO their points request report via e-mail or PM (Personal Message) on the forum.
The following is a list of criteria for a member to acquire points towards promotion.
One (1) point for each of the following:
- 1. For each toy donated to Toys for Tots
- 2. For every 10 trips (one per day) to the charity site linked to on this website. The charity site has 6 tabs with a button to be pressed for "donations". Each click of our website link to the charity site will record 1/10th of a point in a cookie in your browser. Every 10th click will be worth one (1) point. Any more than one (1) click, of our link, per day will not be counted, yet you can still "donate" on the charity website. You can earn a maximum of 3 points per month.
Five (5) points for each of the following:
- 1. For a newsletter article of 100 words or more.
- 2. For wearing a uniform at a sci-fi event, picture or witness verified.

Ten (10) points for each of the following:

- 2. For every real world college course passed during the reporting period.
- 3. For the receipt of any award, be it ship, regional, or Starfleet.
- 4. For every $100.00 per year in charitable donations.
- 5. For every time you attend a STARFLEET function, which includes ship meetings/chats, Summits, Trek Fests or other related STARFLEET gathering whether in complete STARFLEET Marine or Star Trek uniform of any genre or time period or not.

Twenty (20) points for each of the following:

- For active duty military returning home from an overseas deployment, whether in a combat zone or just on patrol (not reassignment from an overseas station).

You may only advance one rank at a time with a minimum time-in-grade of 3, 4 or 6 months and the required point accumulation before the next promotion.
At the XO's, MSG OIC's, (with the Captain's approval) discretion, more than 20 points may be awarded for other activities not listed above.
Members who have not reached adulthood (age 18) may be promoted through cadet ranks. Once they reach 18 years of age, the cadet may take and pass the Officer's Traning School (OTS) exam to make regular rank in STARFLEET.
STARFLEET regulations require that the Commanding Officer be at least 18 years of age and that both the CO and XO have completed OTS & OCC. OTS & OCC do not accumulate a specific number of points as they are prerequisites to promotion to Ensign and Lieutenant Commander respectively.
Looking for a way to have fun, learn a few things, and gain promotion points?
